Courtney Caplan attended the University of Texas at Austin, then got her start in event planning at Austin’s historic Driskill Hotel. She quickly moved up the ranks to direct the catering team, which included Sarah Miller, who continues to work with her today.
Today, Courtney oversees client relations for Caplan Miller Events and continues to provide personalized, comprehensive planning and production services for weddings, benefits, parties and meetings. Her extensive experience in high-end event management, meticulous attention to detail and solid relationships with local and national vendors assure clients that their business is in good hands.
Courtney’s most recent accolades include planning the wedding of former University of Texas football star and current Cleveland Browns quarterback, Colt McCoy. Along with Sarah Miller, she also worked with producers of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to create a dream wedding for an Iraq war veteran; the ceremony and reception were broadcasted during a February 2011 edition of the show.
To Courtney, event planning is about seeing the client’s vision become a reality — taking a special moment or a big day, and bringing it to life. It’s about listening and tailoring each decision — from lighting to transportation, flowers to food — to the client’s specific needs. Ultimately, Courtney strives to build events that make a lasting impression, leaving clients smiling and guests applauding.
Sarah Miller has an eye for design. Add to that a passion for food, 12 years of experience in event planning, and a serious commitment to customer service, and you’ve got an award-winning event professional who raises the bar on special occasions of any kind.
A Texas native, Sarah grew up in the kitchen, where she cultivated an interest in the culinary arts. She moved to Austin to attend the Texas Culinary Academy and graduated with a particular interest in event planning. She got her start in the field at the Radisson Austin Hotel & Suites, then joined Courtney Caplan’s catering team at The Driskill Hotel. Sarah’s specialty was weddings and large social functions, both markets she continues to serve at Caplan Miller.
In addition to her experience in the hotel industry, Sarah spent time planning the Neiman-Marcus Austin store Opening Gala. The event expanded her network of vendor relationships and connected her with the local fashion community. Since completing this event and moving to Caplan Miller, she has gone on to plan some of the area’s finest and most elaborate weddings and events.
Among Sarah’s recent accomplishments, she worked with Courtney Caplan to produce a dream wedding for an Iraq war veteran, broadcasted during a February 2011 edition of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Her production strategy focuses on customer service; she is dedicated to communicating thoroughly and efficiently with each client and vendor. The best way to execute a flawless event is to make sure everyone understands the vision and remains on the same page, from initial consultation to follow-up after the lights go out.
As Office Manager and Event Coordinator, Dani serves as the first point of contact for most CME clients. She facilitates communication between planners, clients and vendors; and works closely with CME staff to make sure that each event is a smashing success.
Ambitious from the start, Dani always knew she wanted to be an event planner. She completed more than a thousand internship hours — including time with Caplan Miller Events, as well as Austin food gurus Crave Communications and upscale floral and décor providers Merveille Events — during her time at Texas State University. Her passion for events comes from the gratification achieved when a client’s vision becomes reality. And she thrives on staying busy, relishing the research-to-execution process that goes into planning each event.
Prior to starting at CME, Dani worked on the events team at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, in San Antonio. There, she learned first-hand just how many elements must be organized in order to put together a successful event. Her responsibilities ranged from welcoming guests and waiting tables, to ordering supplies, to providing design input and managing clients’ contact with vendors.
Dani values CME’s high design and production standards and appreciates Austin’s eclectic, charming and exquisite event venues. Moreover, Dani recognizes the importance of the city’s engaged events community — the easy relationships CME has forged with each vendor and supplier leads to efficient implementation, and ultimately improved client satisfaction.
