I’m so happy that peonies are back in season once again. Definitely one of the prettiest and easiest flower to design with. Along with showing you some pretty pictures, I wanted to share with you some tips on fresh cut peonies – cause I’m a giver, y’all.

Check out these gorgeous yellow and coral charm peonies!

Speaking of coral charm peonies, did you know that they fade in color each day? All the way to a pretty creamy shade.
So, to care for fresh cut peonies:
At the beginning of peony season, (early Spring) you’ll have some super tight buds.
- Remove the guard petals (the hard green petals around the bud)
- Remove all leaves (at least the ones that will be submerged it water, it reduces the flower life if you don’t)
- Cut stems at an angle and put in warm water, you can even use some sugar water if you’re really needing them to open fast
Now that its pretty much Summer, you won’t need to worry about the tight bud situation. They’lll open up immediately as soon as they hit the water. If you want to slow down the process, you can put them in some ice water and in a dark room.
Enjoy the lovely peonies!
