THE PEONIES ARE HERE! THE PEONIES ARE HERE!

I’m so happy that peonies are back in season once again. Definitely one of the prettiest and easiest flower to design with. Along with showing you some pretty pictures, I wanted to share with you some tips on fresh cut peonies – cause I’m a giver, y’all.

Check out these gorgeous yellow and coral charm peonies!

Speaking of coral charm peonies, did you know that they fade in color each day? All the way to a pretty creamy shade.

So, to care for fresh cut peonies:

At the beginning of peony season, (early Spring) you’ll have some super tight buds.
- Remove the guard petals (the hard green petals around the bud)
- Remove all leaves (at least the ones that will be submerged it water, it reduces the flower life if you don’t)
- Cut stems at an angle and put in warm water, you can even use some sugar water if you’re really needing them to open fast

Now that its pretty much Summer, you won’t need to worry about the tight bud situation. They’lll open up immediately as soon as they hit the water. If you want to slow down the process, you can put them in some ice water and in a dark room.

Enjoy the lovely peonies!

FASHION FRIDAY: TAKE A LOAD OFF, PART 2

Remember when Amy gave us her take on last year’s wedding flats?

She knows what she’s talking about, people.

You’ve already said yes to the dress, and now you’ve got your eye on the perfect shoes to go with that dream dress. Well, ladies, I hate to break it to you, but unless these shoes feel like slippers, they’re almost perfect. You’re going to want to give your perfectly pedicured toes a break from those 4 inch beauties so you can dance the night away. Trust. Please refer to this clip from this week’s Modern Family:

Now your dancing shoes don’t have to be ridiculous yellow slippers. There are so many gorgeous options that are as easy on the eyes as they are on your feet. These metallic or embellished ballet flats and sparkly sandals (incidentally, also good for honeymoon wardrobes) are some of my favorites!

Allison

SILENT NIGHT

The concept of going to a concert to see a DJ is pretty foreign to me so the thought of going to a ‘concert’ to listen to a DJ on headphones…even more foreign. With parties like Dayglow popping up all over the US, DJ concerts are blowing up! Dayglow started the DJ concert trend in the US, but Silent Arena is showing us how it’s done, bringing their silent disco’s and concerts to us from the UK. Silent Arena invites you to a concert, usually in large clubs or festival grounds, hands out headphones, you chose the DJ you want to listen to, and the party begins. Sounds sketchy…but these pictures make it look fun. They aren’t planning any public parties in Austin anytime soon, but if you want silent arena at your next party…call me!

MODERN MOROCCAN

I had so much fun planning an intimate 40th birthday dinner last weekend. Our client wanted a Moroccan theme and the more I brainstormed, I decided I wanted to put an up-to-date and modern twist on what you traditionally think about when you think of a Moroccan-style party.

Here is the inspiration board that I created for our client:

And… Here’s the result (pardon the non-professional, iphone images!)

Turkish towels & Moroccan tea glasses? Um, yes please!

CIAO PEOPLE!!!

I am leaving this Friday for my sister’s wedding in Italy and I could not be more excited! Thanks sis for giving me an excuse to eat pasta and drink wine for a couple of weeks while you tie the knot! I will miss you all while I am gone but I will come back with plenty of photos and stories. For now I will leave you with a little inspiration board I came up with for the big day!

Ciao!

NOTHING BUNDT CAKES

Bundt Cakes.
Those curvy cuties.

They date back to the early 1900s. My great aunt Zelda (yes, her name is Zelda) makes the most incredible lemon bundt cake but she wont give away her recipe. Mom — can someone make her give it?!?!

Today I’m a little obsessed with the bundt. So many recipes, flavors, sizes and ways to display them…

Check out these sweet cheesecloth-wrapped mini bundt cake favors… too. freaking. cute.

Happy Monday… have a great week!

#1 TABLE NUMBERS

I am obsessed with all these totally cute table numbers. They would fit so perfectly with the garden party Katherine is dreaming up in her head. I love the white ceramic paired with dainty garden flowers and candlelight. The wooden ones would be so perfect in a potted arrangement. So dreamy…so pretty!

MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME

The Kentucky Derby is this weekend and I have all of the information you need for your “o so chic” viewing party! My sister Margaret usually hosts us for this exciting occasion so I have asked her for her party planning essentials.

Start with the perfect Mint Julep recipe:

water
white sugar
roughly chopped fresh mint leaves
Kentucky bourbon – (I prefer Makers Mark)
fresh mint leaves for garnish

Boil equal parts water and sugar with chopped mint leaves to make simple syrup. Strain out leaves and combine in glass with ice and bourbon. garnish with fresh mint leaves.

The Derby is mostly about what you wear. For women it is all about the hat (the bigger the better). For men, keep it simple and classic. Everyone knows I love a seersucker suite and bow tie!

Don’t forget food! I love southern comfort classics like chicken and waffles and pulled pork sliders.

XO,
KW
