CROP ‘TIL YOU DROP

Remember the good ole’ days when Cher and Dionne would sport the famous crop top? And you wish you had their outfits and especially their abs? Ummm “as if!”. Well they’re back baby and it’s time to bare that tummy.

While we have seen this on the runway for a while now, 2011 has high hopes for this midriff trend. It’s not just about showing off your whole stomach, it’s about giving an elegant and sexy touch to your look. And they look amazing with anything… skinnies, high-wasted pants, leggings, jeggings – whichever! There are so many fun, colorful trends this season so go wild, crazy and you will look fierce as heck. This is something to embrace and not to be feared, ladies.

If you haven’t gotten that motivation from New Years to hit the gym… the time is now. I mean, seriously…yikes. There’s no time like the present! (Right, lil duck?) I am telling you that you don’t want to miss out on this trend. If the boys weren’t swooning over you before, they sure will be now…OBVZ. So get to work on those abs and take pride in letting them show. Crop ‘til you drop, lil hop. Until next time…

ROYAL GROOM’S CAKE?

The details were released this weekend about the Royal wedding cake and it looks like Prince William is having himself a groom’s cake!

Most people associate groom’s cakes with the American South and my prediction is that the Prince himself may have just made this a world-wide phenom! Nice goin’ P Willie!

The chocolate biscuit cake, made from a royal family recipe was requested by William. It will be made by McVitie’s Cake Company, familiar to generations of British children for their tasty chocolate covered biscuits and other treats. The company has made made cakes for the royal family for decades, including the official cake for the 50th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

Paul Courtney, the firm’s cake designer, said the cake will have dark chocolate, broken up tea biscuits, and some secret ingredients.

“When Prince William was a young boy he would have it for tea and really enjoyed it,” he said.

HOT DOG!

Temperatures are rising in Austin and this makes me crave summer, the lake and summer-time snacks!

I worked with Microsoft last week during SXSW and hosted our first event at ACL Live with catering by the new W Hotel Austin. The W created the cutest summertime snack for us… hot dog martinis! Mini hot dogs with all the fixings elegantly displayed in a martini glass. Too cute! Enjoy!

RIP LIZ

“Success is a great deodorant. It takes away all your past smells.”– Miss Hollywood herself, Elizabeth Taylor.

The three-time Academy Award-winning actress passed this morning on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the age of 79. She died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she had been hospitalized for about six weeks. Taylor had extraordinary grace, fame and wealth, however, she was tortured by ill health, failed romances and, above all, personal tragedy.

Elizabeth Taylor’s sultry style and her love for incredible jewelry has remained one of the most influential factors in modern day style. As the world mourns the loss of the Hollywood icon, the fashion community also bids farewell to one of its greatest innovators. Known for her glittering, glamorous life and her equally glittering and glamorous fashions, Taylor loved Grecian-cut gowns, sexy pencil-cut dresses and diamonds—of all colors, shapes and sizes.

In her glamorous memory, we’ve compiled her fabulous, over-the-top, and always interesting looks from her – count them – 8 weddings. Although it’s hard to keep track of the grooms, her dresses are easy to spot. She even starred as the bride in the original Father of the Bride (1950). We’ll miss you, Liz – nobody can quite pull off a wedding like you did!

I bid you a farewell, madam Taylor. Your elegance and beauty will truly be missed!

xo,

Emilie

OMBRE

Ombre:
From a French term for “shaded,” ombre is a color effect where the color gradually changes from light to dark over the item of clothing.

Ombre fashion and accessories are everywhere from shoes to bags to clothing…

Ombre has made its way into the wedding and event world and I LOVE IT! Flowers, cakes, chair covers, bridesmaids dresses, napkins and even ring bearer pillows…

Even ombre hair color is all the rage. I’m lovin’ this trend so so much and need to make an appt to get this look asap:

Check out more celebs with ombre do’s: click here.

I shall end this blog with a quote from the all-knowing mees, Amy Gilbert:
“Ombre. The Modern Tie-Dye.” ©

Happy Monday!

ROCKIN’ RODEO

In carrying over the Rodeo topic this week, I got the chance to check out the Rodeo Austin Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo on Wednesday and boy was I in for a treat. I instantly turned into a big kid and was on major sensory overload. There was SO much to see and SO much to do.

First of all, they have carnival rides galore. Not to mention the Big Circus Side Show—Freaks!!! The two head cat, the giant rat, the world’s smallest horse, the bearded lady—Oh My!! I couldn’t resist the merry go round.

Next I was off to the Wild West Show, Ol’ McDonalds Barn and Pig Races. Bring out the animals. They were everywhere! Pigs, Lambs, Chickens, Roosters, Cows, Sheep, horse…And what’s a rodeo without the animals? I think the chickens are my favorite.

I can’t sign off without reporting on the food. You know how I love my food. They had all the typical carnie food, but their stands seem to be much more festive than I remember from my last carnie food experience. And of course they had every kind of food on a stick—chicken, shrimp, roasted corn, corn dogs, cotton candy, candy apples. A few things that stood out to me include: Pizza on a stick, Elephants Ears, Fried Beef Tenderloin and the Kind Taters were super yummy.

Check out some of my photos from my night at the Rodeo.

You still have one more week we enjoy all the festivities. It’s definitely worth it!

Cheers!
Elizabeth
