MUST-HAVE MONDAY: POPTART POPS

I stumbled across the cutest idea from a great blog called Babble. Homemade Pop Tart Pops! Pass these minis as a late night snack or display them next to a coffee station. Serve them to your guests upon arrival at a post-wedding brunch. Where ever these babies show up, they are sure to please! Who doesn’t love a pop tart (don’t lie)? And an actual homemade one?? YUM!

The recipe and photos below are from Brooke McLay. Her inspiration came from Bakerella – the creator of the original cupcake pop and author of the book Cake Pops.

FOR THE TWO-BITE POPTARTS
1 c. fresh cherries, pitted and diced
3 T. sugar
2 T. cornstarch
2 T. water
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 pkg. prepared pie crusts

FOR THE POPS
wooden popscicle sticks

FOR THE GLAZE
1 c. powdered sugar
1-2 T. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
food coloring and sprinkles (optional)

In a small saucepan, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch and almond extract. Heat on stove over medium heat until mixture has thickened. Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool. Unroll pie crusts and using a pizza cutter to slice them into 1 1/2″x 2″ rectangles (I used a ruler to measure mine into equal sizes. Just use a butter knife to score your pie crust before cutting).

Place a wooden popscicle stick on top of one of the cut rectangles, then spoon a small amount (about 1 1/2 tsp.) of cooled cherry filling into the center of the pie square, taking care not to get it near the edges. Gently lay a second rectangle over the top of the cherry filling. Press the edges of the rectangles together with a fork. Transfer to a baking sheet. Bake poptart pops in an oven preheated to 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes, or just until the edges begin to brown.

In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make glaze. Tint with food coloring, if desired. Spoon over cooled poptart pops, sprinkle with colored sugar, and allow to the glaze to harden slightly before serving.

SHIPS AHOY

One of my favorite trends this season (and always!) is the nautical craze. I am more than obsessed with the combination of sailor chic and bold stripes – it’s incredible. It’s no wonder this iconic style has been around for decades. Made fashionably famous in the 1920s by the one and only Coco Chanel, this is a look we will continue to see for years to come. The classic and casual look is overly addicting and the timeless navy and white color palette is more dominant than ever. Watch out for the black and white combo this spring – it’s all over the market! Throw on a simple striped tee with your skinnies and flats or put on a boatneck sweater with white-cuffed shorts and wedges. There is no way to go wrong, Mate! I have pulled my favorite pieces from runways and magazines and put them together in hopes of inspiring you to jump on the boat.

Who doesn’t dream of getting married on a yacht? Well, let that dream become a reality and incorporate these elements into your wedding. These trends are hot and the planning will definitely be smooth sailing!

Don’t be surprised if you see me standing on the dock at Abel’s on the Lake in my cutest sailor outfit just waiting for someone to scoop me up in their boat. Ships Ahoy – toot, toot!!! Until next time…

You know you love me!
Xoxo,
Amy

OH VERA!

She’s done it again. Vera Wang never fails to amaze me with her most beautiful wedding gowns and her Spring 2011 collection does not disappoint. In fact, I think it has to be my favorite line this year! Just take a look at some of these beauties! I especially love the platinum tulle dress with rosette detail. So chic for 2011!

And budget brides rejoice, the famed designer has just created a line for David’s Bridal with gowns ranging in price up to 1,400.00! I’m not sure how I feel about this one, but Vera we’ll always love you!

XO,
Sarah

Hillary + John

Happy Tuesday!
Today you are in for a treat! I am bringing you the beautiful wedding of Hillary and John at The Four Seasons here in Austin. This wedding was truly unique, from the cabaret style ceremony, where guests watched from their tables, to the beautiful chuppah that was suspended from the ceiling and featured a family tree with photos of both the bride and groom’s family members. Family was such a huge part of this wedding, as it is so important to both of the families involved. The suspended family tree stayed in place after the ceremony and provided a canopy over the dance floor for the rest of the night.

Congratulations Hillary and John!

A big thank you to the wonderful vendors who made this all possible:

MUST-HAVE MONDAY: GARTERS

This is my new little segment called “Must-Have Monday”. I’m an online shopping addict and MUST HAVE so many things, so I figured why not share all of the things I find and want on a regular basis, right?

Today I bring you Florrie Mitton’s couture garters. All items are handmade in England using exclusively designed trimmings, vintage findings, beautiful crystals, fine laces & silks. These garters are just too pretty to toss to the boys! Is it bad that I want one and I’m not getting married?

You NEED one of these, yes? Yes.

EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION

What a story! It was an absolute honor to work with Extreme Makeover Home Edition to plan the wedding of Jessica and Patrick Zeigler. When asked to take on this task, we immediately picked up the phone and within two hours had a team of over 15 local wedding vendors that immediately agreed to participate. Everything was donated to this wedding. Pretty incredible.

See below for more shots from the wedding reception. Also check out Sassini Photography’s blog for even more images of the big day.

For a complete list of our amazing team of partners on this event, check out the ABC site.

Hope you enjoyed it!

BOY TALK

As you can tell from getting to know me over the months, I am certainly no sports buff. But what I am certain about is if you want to get a boy’s attention, there’s no other way to do it. I don’t know much, but ever since my friends have launched their website I have found an interest (small, but that’s better than nothing) in sports. Fans Always Write (fansalwayswrite.com) is a website for passionate sports fans to give their own opinions and expertise on what is going on in the sports world. It gives a personal, witty sense on the subject, instead of some boring old news article, which is why I have become an avid reader. Maybe it’s because I want to feel like I know what I am talking about or maybe it’s just because I don’t want to be ignored when I talk about weddings or shoes or purses. Either way I thought, if I can be interested in their blog, how can I make them (besides Scotty) interested in mine? So this one’s for the boys!!!

There are many ways to incorporate sports into weddings so, grooms, listen up! Have a favorite snack that you must have every time you go to the stadium? Pass them during the cocktail hour or turn them into a fun food station. Love sweets? Make your groom’s cake a shrine to your favorite team. Don’t be shy fellas…it’s your big day, too. This is the perfect way to have your say and let your lady know want you want. Do you even know how happy she’ll be to think you have an interest in this planning process?? She will be thrilled and you know what that means… ;-)

And if this still isn’t sinking in, just take a few hints from one of our favorite grooms and athletes!

So ladies, get in touch with your masculine side. It’s time to indulge in boy talk. Until next time…

ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID…

Every bride says it, “this is a dress you will be able to wear again!”  Stop fooling yourselves ladies; they’re never going to wear that dress again, it’s going to be expensive, and mostly likely at least one of your bridesmaids is going to secretly hate it!  Never fear, choosing a bridesmaids dress that everyone will love and look fabulous in does not have to be a chore.  Just head over to Bella Bridesmaid in Austin on North Lamar and they will take great care of you.  In fact, they will even come and dress your ladies on the big day.  While you are there check out the line from Two Birds Bridesmaids.  It is the best!

A few DO’s and DON’TS when selecting your bridesmaid’s gowns…

DO:  Consider your gown and the location of the wedding.  You of course, you want them to compliment each other.
DON’T:  Feel like you have to match the dresses to your color scheme or decor.  In fact, don’t match them!
DO:  Go with a neutral color (white, ivory, taupe, champagne, black, gray, brown and sometimes navy) and always pair with a great metallic shoe.
DON’T: Expect your bridesmaids to shell out too much for their dresses.  Being in a wedding comes with a big financial commitment, don’t make it more challenging by choosing a dress that is unaffordable.
DO: When possible, consider picking up the bill for the dresses, or maybe even allowing them to wear their own dress (with your approval, duh!) in a color of your choosing.  Basic black always works best for this.

A few favorite bridesmaids dresses from past events to inspire you…

XO,
Sarah
