CHAIR CRAZY

Ok people, I can’t lie. I’m obsessed with chairs. If you have worked with me, you know this. I cannot, will not, don’t allow my clients to settle for using hotel ballroom chairs. Nope. Can’t. Won’t allow it.

You can plan the perfect looking table all day long but if it is surrounded by 10 bulky, corporate-meeting-looking chairs then you wasted your time, because when I look into a room – I see a sea of chairs. If you have a room set for 50, 100, 200, 300 guests, you have a lot of chairs in that room! When those doors open to your event and your guests see the room for the first time, guess what is most predominant in that space? You got it… CHAIRS! Sooo, they better look good!

My staple and go-to chair is the chivari chair. So perfect and pretty. It almost disappears in a room because they are so dainty and light. They are minimal and allow you to see through them and notice the table decor. Gotta love that. I love a ghost chair for the same reason and they give a more modern feel. There is also the Chamelon Chair – so many options with these puppies, I get a little too excited.

And then there are chair covers. Chair covers will draw attention to your chair and make the cover a big part of your decor statement. Wildflower Linen out of California has my favorite chair covers of all time. Hands down…the best. Here are a few of my favorite chair covers from Wildflower for both chivari chairs and chamelon chairs:

{sigh}… seriously, dont you want to plan a party right now so that you can use these little pretties?! And dont even get me started with chair pad covers. I’ll save that for a different post.

Cheers to Chairs!

TAKE A LOAD OFF

One of the first things a girl does when planning her wedding, besides picking her groom (lucky dog!!) and setting her date, is obsess over the perfect wedding gown. Every girl dreams about what they are going to look like as they walk down the aisle. We search through hundreds of magazines and go to tons of different boutiques trying on all different styles until we find the right one – and when we put it on, we just know. Well, for me, the same goes for shoes. Your wedding shoes are just as important as the dress. They must be fabulously perfect – and when you put them on, you just know, they are the pair.

As pretty as these babies are, let’s get real. There is no way you’ll be able to last the whole night without the balls of your feet screaming for help. Heck, being on 6th for a few hours in those inches can feel like decades. I know, I know, you’ve spent months walking around the house trying to break them in. But trust me, after a few hours you will realize they aren’t as worn in as you thought they’d be. And yes, they are beautiful and were really expensive, but so what? Good news here, ladies… take a load off!!

Kick off those heels and let those little piggies breathe! Ballerina flats are cuter than ever and are being shown all over. I can’t get enough of them! These are the perfect accessories to change into and will allow your feet to go wild and crazy! I have picked out my favorite flats on the market that will look amazing under that gorgeous wedding gown of yours!! Mothers – start shopping, too. You know you want those feet to be ready to boogie all night long. And, besides, who doesn’t want to buy TWO new pairs of fabulously perfect shoes? DUH!! Until next time…

SOMETHING BLUE

Did you just plan a fabulous wedding and so depressed it’s over? Are you lost without the daily task of planning your wedding? Are you hanging on to every last moment that happened the night of your wedding? If it’s been a month since your big day and you answered yes to any of these question, it’s time to move on sista!!! I’m here to help you get over the wedding blues.

Tips on moving forward in your new married life:

1. DECORATE–Whether you have a new home, moved into either your husband’s house or he joined yours, or you already lived together it’s time to decorate! You most likely have all kinds of new gifts that you need to pull out of those boxes and dress up your home. Incorporate your wedding photos into your home. Make sure your home is a reflection of both you and your husband. I know it’s hard to incorporate all of those UT/sports memorabilia. This could take years to conquer!! Let the decorating begin!

2. NEW ROUTINE—It’s time to get you active in a new routine. Look into volunteer groups—Austin has so many options available. Find a new work out group–boot camp, step class, yoga, training for a marathon. Book Clubs can be so fun and not just for older people anymore. You could even start your own book club. Whole Foods and Central Market offer some phenomenal cooking classes.

3. MONOGRAM—With a new name comes a new monogram. Let the monogramming begin! Start with your new stationery and then run with it. Pillows, towels, napkins, coasters—the options are endless. But don’t get too carried away!

4. PLAN A PARTY—Find an excuse to plan a party. I know do every chance I get! With all this new china, glass, silver you must throw a fabulous dinner party. Use every bit of your new pieces. You can also use the new tips you are learning from your cooking classes.

Now move on with your life and enjoy your new hubby!

Cheers!

GOLDEN GIRLS

My all time favorite sport in the world is red-carpeting. (Yep, sport.) The Golden Globes last Sunday was the start of many, and trust me; I had my game face on. I sat closely on the floor in front of the TV surrounded by my besties with my sour candies in one hand and the remote in the other, and if you know me, you know that I am not a fan of being in control of the remote. With every dress that was flaunted my eyes were glued and I was as focused as they come, and again, if you know me, you know that is a very rare occasion. I am utterly addicted, and yes this is an issue, but no there is not a cure.

Obviously there were those traumatic moments when some displayed their faux paus, but hey, we can’t dwell on them. What we can concentrate on, however, are my nine favorite Golden Girls of the night. They all ROCKED it from head to toe and I am proud to call them my BCFs. (best celeb friends – duh)

ANGELINA JOLIE – In Atelier Versace, Ferragamo shoes and Robert Procop jewels ANNE HATHAWAY – In Giorgio Armani Privé OLIVIA WILDE – In Marchesa, Christian Louboutin shoes, Tiffany & Co. jewels and a Judith Leiber clutch JANUARY JONES – In head-to-toe Versace and Neil Lane jewels EVA LONGORIA – In Zac Posen JULIE BOWEN - In Tadashi Shoji and Martin Katz jewels PIPER PERABO – In Oscar de la Renta, Christian Louboutin heels, a Judith Leiber clutch and Bvlgari jewelry DIANNA ARGON – In J. Caplan Miller Events Goes Extreme

Recently Caplan Miller Events was fortunate enough to be a part of something truly remarkable. We were approached by the producers of ABC’s hit show Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and asked to throw a surprise wedding for a couple in the Austin area that they were building a new house for. We soon learned the remarkable story of Army Staff Sgt. Patrick Zeigler and his fiancée, Jessica Hansen. Patrick was shot 4 times in the 2009 shooting spree at Fort Hood. At one point doctors only gave Patrick a 5% chance to live, but live he did. Jessica stood by Patricks side through his long and painful recovery, and today Patrick is not only alive, but walking again!

Of course we were more than happy to participate in such a meaningful and important day in this truly deserving couple’s lives. We were given two weeks (yes I said two weeks people!) to pull together Patrick and Jessica’s dream wedding. Thanks to all of our wonderful vendors, we were able to pull it off and the results were truly magical! Being a part of the show was such a wonderful experience! Definitely a WOW moment for all of us! Our episode airs on February 20th on abc. Be sure to check it out and look for the CME team!

Check out Lauren and Me with Ty!
