CASA DE CHAINSAW

If you know me, then you know Im OBSESSED with horror movies. When I was younger, my brother and I would would go to rent movies and head directly to the horror aisle. We tried to rent every horror film in alphabetical order with the hope of one day watching every horror movie ever made. I don’t think we stuck to that plan very well, but I have seen a-freaking-lot of them!

So tonight is Halloween Eve which means I watch scary movies (duh!). We pulled out Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake from 2003) and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Beginning (from 2006). Ahhh!…two of my favs! Creepy old ladies, Leatherface, hot cast (hi Eric Balfour), super gory deaths…need I say more?

As we were watching, we remembered that the Hewitt House is less than an hour away from Austin. So in true movie geek fashion, we jumped in the car and drove to Granger, TX.

(top two photos are from the movie, bottom two are mine from tonight!)

Pretty creepy, huh?

What scary movie(s) will you watch this Halloween?
Tell me!!

EXPRESS YOURSELF

A very amazing thing has happened to Lamar Boulevard in Austin, TX and that is called Café Express. With locations all over the Houston and Dallas areas, they have finally branched out to Austin and is a perfect fit, must I add. With their “made-from-scratch” philosophy, this is bound to be your next eatery stop. There is a huge variety to chose form and all of their food is fresh and flavorful. Let’s take a look at some of our CMEers ‘café expressions’:

Amy’s expressions: “Have you ever been to that little island in the middle with all infinite amount of pickles, parmesan, and garlic that you can imagine??? That’s enough reason for me!”
Lauren’s expressions: “The food is so fresh (and so clean, clean), and I love that I can order off the kid’s menu!!”
Erika’s expressions: “I like the soup. Preferably, baked potato soup.”
My expressions: “I remember going to Houston to visit my Aunt and we would go to Café Express. I thought it was “cool” to go hang out at a café. The food was great, too!”

Now that we got our expressions out of the way, it’s your turn. Take advantage of this great weather, go get their famous baked potato soup, sit on the patio and express yourself. It will surely hit the spot! Yum!

Cheers,
Elizabeth

rules to FEAR by…

If you are a scary-movie fan like me, you have probably learned some vital rules in your day, especially things to avoid during this spooky holiday. I recommend taking notes, people. This could save you!!

1. Never say that you’ll be right back… because you won’t
2. Lock your doors, crazies!
3. Letting your feet hang off the edge of the bed is a no-no
4. Do not search the basement, especially if the power has gone out – duh.
5. Avoid Elm Street when trick-or-treating
6. If you hear a knock, do not open the door and look around outside – I mean, come on!
7. Don’t try to escape through the doggy door of your garage
8. Never run to the top floor of a building – you’re just asking for it
9. Don’t trip when running through the woods – take off those darn high heels, ladies
10. And last, but certainly not least….NEVER LOOK BACK!!!!!!!!!

Are you scared yet??? That’s the point! But if you aren’t into the guts and the gore that these movies bring, get over it! This is the perfect excuse to lay on the couch with your beau and cuddle all night! ;-) Happy halloween! Until next time – I’ll be right back….

You know you love me!
Xoxo,
Amy

Election Night done Right!

It’s hard to believe that election day is less than one week away! That means if you are like me and still undecided on your candidate, you’d better get on it. One thing’s for sure, it does not matter if you vote republican or democrat, the best place to watch the election results will be at the newly re-opened Arthouse Museum at The Texas Tribune Anniversary party. There will be music by Jimmy Dale Gilmore and his band, food by Frank, Moonshine and Ranch 616, just to name a few and drinks by Republic Tequila and Titos Vodka! Tickets are going fast; so don’t miss your chance to be a part of this amazing night in Austin! For more information and to purchase tickets, go to www.texastribune.org

Leave the Cutesy for the Kids!

Halloween to me is less about the cutsy costumes and more about black black black!!  I have been critized a couple times since being in Austin that I wear too much black, but it was my color of choice when living in NYC and I just can’t seem to stay away from it!  I, unlike my friends, do not get into the spirit of Halloween with the dressing up, the going out, the gore, the guts, the celebration of all things scary.  It is all too much chaos and I would much prefer to stay inside and celebrate the goth holiday by throwing a dinner party for my friends.  So that is exactly what I am going to do this year and my theme color of choice….BLACK!  Black goblets, black tulips, black top hats, black chandeliers, maybe throw in a white lace table runner, black dripping taper candles and maybe even some Chanel skull and bones matches (couldn’t believe they make these!).

And for a couple pieces I would love to wear as Master of Ceremonies at my All Hallow’s Eve Bash is…

Roberto Cavalli black and swarovski crystal spider ring…

Christian Louboutin Over the Knee Boots.  Not just for Halloween but a perfect excuse to purchase as past of the “Costume”

And for drama a black top hat!

All together this is my perfect Halloween night!

I DON’T THINK YOU’RE READY FOR THIS JELLY

Looking for a cute idea for displaying your escort cards?

I’m all about the jelly bean!
Fill shallow trays with jelly beans. Alphabetize the cards, line ‘em up, and finish off the outside of your tray with scattered floral touches.
Voila! Cute, easy and memorable.

Happy Monday!

DON’T SHOOT THE MESSENGER

I am obsessed with bags. I mean, what girl isn’t? I have been digging around my mom’s remarkable collection for years trying to “borrow” as many as I can. (and have managed to snag a couple amazing ones, might I add!). A purse is a women’s safe – we keep everything in here! So much that it sometimes feels like a stack full of bricks on our shoulders. Well girls, the time has come and the trend is in to take some of that weight off. Everyone who’s anyone is sporting the crossbody bag or in other words, the messenger bag.

These stylish accessories come in all different shapes, sizes, colors and trends. Find one that is simple and sophisticated or one that is rocker chic with zippers and studs. You simply can’t go wrong. From Chanel to Marc by Marc Jacobs, from classic black to bright red, these suckers range at every price and you will look fabulous!

Ladies – Can’t find a way to say thank you to your bridesmaids? Give them a bag! It says it all! These make for the perfect gifts. Men – Struggling to think about what to give your lady for the upcoming holidays? Well, don’t just sit around…go buy one for her! They will be completely satisfied. And if you don’t want to feel left out, you can even get one for yourself… a messenger murse! How cute?! Until next time…

You know you love me!

Bow Ties Are Your New Best Friend

Bow ties have been making a big comeback and it’s about time to start talking about them! Though they seemed to become a little passe in the 90s and early 2000s, I can say with total confidence that they are here to stay!  Tom Ford broke out these babies after launching his namesake collection in 2004 and since then they have made their appearance not just on the red carpet and at weddings, but on the streets on any given day.  From James Bond to computer geek, young boy to the mature man, men are finding ways to keep the bow tie alive!

Wear it with a basic black tux…so dapper

Sophisticated fashion guy

Geek Chic with suspenders and all

Buy them thin or thick

For the young and old

And ladies if you are feeling a little left out, there is a solution for you!  It’s called the Bow Tie Blouse…

Now for a little lesson in how to tie them…

Are we all loving them now!  Go out and grab your beau one for the next big event, night on the town or make a statement wearing it mid-day at work.  Don’t be afraid to let your inner fashionista-man out!
