Rain, Rain Come and Stay!

I love the rain! This weather always brings out some interesting wardrobe and I am always curious to see how people react to weather on days such as these! Wishing I would have indulged in the purchase of a navy Burberry trench and regretting not putting on my Marc by Marc Jacobs wellies this morning, I chose an outfit not supporting the weather and here I sit at my desk with wet feet and frizzy hair!

We have 5 people here at the office today and I wanted to share each person’s choice on how they decided to brave the rain…can you guess who is wearing what??

First up we have sandals…interesting choice considering the massive amounts of puddles forming all over the city. But I do have to say I love the polish, it reminds me that Fall is right around the corner. Color: OPI, You Don’t know Jacques.

Next we have the classic rain boots. How cute is the little umbrella detail…appropriate in every way.

Next we have two people in the office that choose Tory Burch flats. Though they probably shouldn’t be wore in the rain, they definitely keep the toes warm and are always stylish.

And last we have the ultimate in rain ready-to-wear…HUNTER wellies in hunter green color! I was so proud to see at least one of us make this perfect selection in rain wardrobe. Bravo!

Can you guess who wore what? I’ll post answers at the end of the day!

GREEK BEAK

“Petro” has been the official mascot (and town celebrity) of Mykonos, Greece for many years. Found after a storm in 1954 the white pelican gave up his migrating to become a local resident. After more than thirty years of making the island his home, Petro eventually died. A replacement was soon found and a tradition established. Through the care and protection of the islanders, the spirit of Petros lives on in his predecessor who continues to this day to make his home on the island’s waterfront.

While wondering through the streets of Mykonos this past June, I came across Petro! Petro was cute and super smelly. I snapped this photo of him below. What I later noticed were the two simple tables next to him. To me, there is something so perfect about those two tables: the yellow and white linens with the black wooden chairs.

I can’t wait to recreate my version of this look. I would set long dinner tables with yellow and white striped linens, black chivari chairs, and serve a family-style greek dinner.

Keep your eyes open! The simplest things inspire the best ideas.

SILLY Business

You may be wondering what all these different shapes are…Well I have two words for you: SILLY BANDZ!!! These light weight, stretchy bracelets are taking over as the number one fad. If you think they are annoying, I bet your mind is about to change. These bandz are the bomb-dot-com. Everyone is wearing them around and trading them at every chance they get. Sarah Jessica Parker wore them on David Letterman and Shakira is rocking them on her new album cover. Wear them to the next event you are attending and trade for something else. No need to be shy – you will look super cool. Don’t leave home without them… you never know what kind of silly shape you will get next. Who knew something made for tots would make people of all ages go so silly?

You know you love me!

All Choked Up

Lately I have been craving Spinach Artichoke Dip. And for good reason…who does not love this hot and bubbly concoction of cheese, garlic and artichokes? So, I know this is so old school, but Houston’s has to have the best artichoke dip, hands down! I’ve got the recipe. Try it, it’s a snap to make!

And don’t forget, artichokes are not just for eating, they are also for decorating. They work beautifully into your centerpieces or even a bridal bouquet. Just look at the one Kurant Events put together for us for a wedding at Laguna Gloria earlier this year. Fabulous!

love,
Sarah

Spinach Artichoke Dip

1/2 cup grated Romano cheese
1 large clove garlic
1 10 oz. package frozen chopped spinach — thawed and squeezed
1 (6.25 oz.) jar artichoke heart — drained and patted dry
1 (8 oz.) container soft garlic-chive cream cheese
2 large eggs
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese or Italian mix
tortilla chips, sour cream and salsa — for accompaniment

Preheat oven to 375 F.

Put Romano cheese in a food processor with metal blade. Turn motor on and drop garlic through feed tube to mince. Stop machine and add spinach, artichokes, cream cheese and eggs. Process until thoroughly blended; turn into medium bowl. Fold in mozzarella.

Transfer to a 2 to 3 cup baking dish; bake until heated through, 20-25 minutes.

Serve hot with tortilla chips, sour cream and salsa.

Makes 16 servings.
