Army Brat

I can’t stop staring at my fingers and toes. Weird, I know, but I am obsessed with my choice of nail polish colors. Have you not been looking at my favorite celebs’ nail beds? Um, hello? Think soldiers, think aviators, think humvees…think ARMY. These shades are taking over the nail universe.

My inspiration and personal fave:

And some others for you, my friends:

Nail polish chips and goes, but these colors are here to stay. I am an army brat now and will be one forever (well, until Spring when Chanel comes out with their new colors). Until next time…start painting and get your camo on.

The Pies of Texas Are Upon You!

It is officially my favorite time of year! Time to break out those new fall boots, pick out a few perfect pumpkins and go antique shopping in Round Top! This year I will only be there in spirit, so I thought I would take a moment to reflect on my most favorite part of the Fall Antique Festival in Round Top, Texas; PIES! If you have never been to Round Top, I suggest you get over there and fast! Your first and most important stop is Royer’s Round Top Cafe. You can’t miss it, and with a population of 77 people, ask anyone for directions, and they’ll point you in the right direction. Royer’s if my favorite restaurant for many reasons, but my most favorite thing on the menu is the Bud’s Butterscotch Chip Pie. Trust me on this one. I have taken it to many dinner parties, and I am always invited back. It is amazing served warm with homemade vanilla Blue Bell Ice Cream. And not to worry, even if you can’t make it over to Round Top this week for a little slice of heaven, just give them a call and they’ll ship one to you. Or better yet, sign up for their 12 Month Pie Club and they’ll ship you a pie each month! It doesn’t get much better than that! For more information on how you can get your hands on these delicious pies, visit RoyersRoundTopCafe.com, but please save one for me!

Enjoy,
Sarah

O.M.Glee.

For months and months my mom has been begging me to watch Glee. For some reason, the idea did not seem appealing and I didn’t see what the big hoo-hah was all about. Last week I finally caved. I downloaded the entire 1st season, which consists of 23 episodes. As I sat down to get my first Glee experience, I found myself gaily belting out songs and was left wanting more (Remember last week when it was Drake? Well he is totally out of the picture. I am now in love with Finn). This led me to watch them all in 6 days. Crazy, I know. I was a woman possessed. And this isn’t like all my other weekly obsessions; this one is here to stay. I can’t get the tunes out of my head and frankly I don’t want to. I can’t stop thinking about Rachel and Finn and how perfect they are for each other (Since he can’t have me, of course.). But if you don’t watch – you simply just don’t understand. This feel good music dramedy is amazing and if you need a quick pick-me-up then this is the ticket. I now consider myself part Gleek and hope you do, too. It’s true what they say – mothers sure know best (especially mine!).

Have you ever considered having an a cappella group as entertainment for your next party? If not, you totally should. The Ransom Notes at the University of Texas are unbelievably talented and would be the perfect addition to your party. Your guests will crave their harmonizing sound for weeks to come. So don’t just sit there, book ‘em, baby!

I strongly encourage you to Gleek out every Tuesday night at 7pm on FOX. If not, you are missing out and will definitely get slushied. Don’t get it? Better tune in!! Until next time…

Enough said.

You know you love me!

FRIED FARE

Four more days until the State Fair of Texas begins! The Fair runs from September 24-October 17th and has been held yearly in Dallas since 1886. Corn Dogs were invented at the State Fair of Texas in 1942 and in 1952, the Fair’s Mascot “Big Tex” made his debut.

Two things come to mind when I think of the Fair:
TX-OU Football + Fried Food.

Fairgoers have often ranked food as one of the top reasons for attending the annual State Fair of Texas. In 2005, Fair organizers – determined to take the association with food to a new level – organized the first annual Big Tex Choice Awards contest. The contest is considered a friendly food fight among Fair concessionaires. On Labor Day, judges are brought in for the final round of competition. Those crazy carnies seriously fry everything. Past winning fried fare: fried ice cream, fried pb&j and banana sandwiches, fried coke, deep fried latte, fried cookie dough, fried banana split, chicken fried bacon and the grossest…. last year’s winner for most creative: fried butter. yep, that’s right. sick!

The 2010 winners and ones to try this year are…
Most Creative: Fried Beer
Best Taste: Texas Fried Frito Pie

Enjoy your fried fare at the fair, peeps!

VMAmazing

If you, my obsessed readers, know me like I think you do, than you know that on Sunday night I sat down with my eyes glued to the TV to watch the VMAs. Not only because my best friend, Chelsea Handler, was hosting them or because I needed to see what everyone was wearing, but because I have a new obsession and his name is Drake. Okay, okay this is all beside the point, so let me cut to the chase – The Stage. The Lighting. WOW. If you did not watch, think of the stage as a blank canvas. The lighting transformed throughout the night and got bigger, better and brighter. My eyes popped and my jaw dropped each time a different artist took the floor to perform.

A few of our very own… Yeah, keep scrolling baby!

Impressive, huh??

P.S. I know Chelsea hasn’t gotten raving reviews of being the “best host of the year” but, so what? Lay off my biff, would ya?? Until next time…

Setting the Perfect Table

With fall just around the corner, it is time for a little refresher on place settings. I just love a perfectly set table! And after all, you would not want to make the mistake of setting your bread plate on the wrong side of the service plate at your Thanksgiving dinner this year! As an event planner I cannot even tell you how many times I have noticed a table set incorrectly and have had to have the caterer re-set all the place settings! So, here you go, a little diagram from the Washington Post for you to keep on hand.

And here are a few of my favorite place settings from past events!

Cheers!
Sarah

COO COO FOR COCOA

Fall is in the air, people!
Saturday night I was watching the Horns at Texas Memorial Stadium (night games are THE BEST)… and I could feel Fall. Seriously, I could feel it in my bones. It’s sooo close. To me, Fall means one thing: a trip to see my girlfriends in NYC. Last year in New York, after a day filled with shopping, we stopped at Jacques Torres for hot chocolate. This isn’t your average hot chocolate. Jacques makes it with real chocolate – never cocoa powder. The result…a thick rich creamy hot chocolate that bursts with flavor. I felt daring and tried the Wicked Hot Chocolate that features allspice, cinnamon, ground, sweet ancho chili peppers, and smoked, ground chipotle chili peppers! Yes. Not going to NY anytime soon? Austinites can pick this up at Central Market.

In addition to the best hot chocolate, Jacques Torres has beautiful favor boxes for events.
Their signature colors – orange and brown – are a perfect compliment to events using a fall color palette. Even parties celebrating our very own Longhorns!

Fall, I can’t wait to see more of you soon!

SHORE FOR SURE.

Thursdays are great in so many ways. Of course it is the end of the week which means Fridays are near. And while many of you can’t stop thinking about your plans for the weekend, I have one thing on my mind and one thing only… JERSEY SHORE.

If you are not a fan and think this show is “garbage” we need to have a serious chat. Why all these hard feelings for the show of my dreams? How could you not be entertained by Ron’s drunken grenade hook-ups or J Woww’s outfits of choice? Don’t you just want Sammi to get a clue about Ron? Can’t stand Angelina? So what… no one can! And Vinny…he’s just the cutest. These shore goers are all over the Hollywood scene. Pauly D has his deejay fingers on every club in town. Mike “The Situation” is going to be on the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars displaying his famous abs. And so what if Snooki Snickers got arrested the other week for disorderly conduct? Did you see her mug shot?? Priceless.

Get your friends together and throw a Jersey Shore party. Stand around on the dance floor and have everyone do the fist pump. You can even have a Snooki look-a-like contest.

The next time you have doubts about these famous guidos and guidettes, just think about the reality heaven that is here for your enjoyment. There are not even enough words to describe this popular sensation.

Ways to prepare for tonight’s eppy:
1) Tease your hair with mega spray, secure with a Doritos’s chip clip and put on your pink, fluffy slippers
2) Make sure to wear your ‘shirt before going out shirt’ while you watch – this is for reals people
3) Pump some iron at the gym, get your streaky spray tan on, and throw in your loads of dirty laundry. GTL BABY.

What is your favorite quote from my friends at the Shore?????

You know you love me!

Well Read

These days it is rare to meet someone who you would describe as “well read.” Unless of course you count magazines, blogs and texts! So, when I met April Richardson, a beautiful bride planning a perfect May wedding, I was very intrigued by her love of books and poetry. I knew instantly that we had to somehow incorporate her passion into the design of her wedding. We named the tables to honor all April’s favorite poets. Hand-painted and hand-calligraphied books became the table numbers and bar signs. Even the escort cards resembled tiny books complete with bookmark. Beautiful!

Speaking of well read, if you are a bride, or just a lover of weddings, you must pick up my top wedding magazines on stands now!
